For example, for those of us who are reading this-who shall they say-like me are not so young any more-we can all keep in mind eating mostly junk food, overtraining like crazy-and somehow they still managed to make gains.

The effect of not doing this can be body overweight gain-which is not good-no matter what age they are.

But as they age, those junk food days need to be restricted and what eat needs to be monitored more closely.

For my money the best way to stay lean as they age is to continue to train as hard as they can-and yes do some kind of cardio.

Then when they sit down to eat they must focus on taking in only the highest quality foods.

Things like skinless chicken breasts, turkey and lean beef ought to make up the bulk of the protein they take in for muscle growth and repair.

Although, I still like my whole eggs.

As far as carbohydrates, they ought to eat  of them to fuel the training that they do-and a small more for growth and repair-and that is it.

Plenty of things like, kale, broccoli, spinach, yams, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and the like.
